The Shelby Daytona Coupe is one of the most important cars of the last century, and the first car inducted into the National Registry of Historic Vehicles was a Daytona Coupe. The Shelby Daytona Coupe was one of the winningest vehicles of all times, and with only six ever produced, there’s a ravenous level of desire among America’s many Shelby fans.

Pete Brock and Bob Negstad re-engineered the Shelby Daytona Coupe with a Shelby-licensed line of reproduction Daytona Coupes, and Jay Leno had a chance to speak with Bruce Goldsmith about his personal Shelby Brock Daytona Coupe.

Goldsmith goes down the history of the Brock-designed coupes, including a story about Carroll Shelby himself sticking this replica Daytona into a museum, all covered in stickers, in an effort to fool the public. Oh that Carroll Shelby, always was a character.

This video is longer and more-detailed than most, with Goldsmith talking at length about everything from shock absorbers to the unique features of the underside of the hood. There are only about 130 or so of these replica Daytonas all over the world, but to use Jay’s own words: these are a cut-above the rest.
