On April 23, 2016, hundreds of cars and thousands of car lovers gathered at the Los Angeles Convention Center for Autocon, a celebration of tuner culture. Toyo Tires was well represented at the event, with multiple vehicles in their booth and throughout the hall sporting their rubber, and they put together the video you see above to give you a glimpse of what it was like.
“We had an 80 by 30 foot space bringing our interactive display rig, with nine booth vehicles,” explains Toyo’s Julie Sediq. “On average we do 15 of these tuner and import car shows and meets across the U.S. every year.”
The cars (and trucks) at the show ran the spectrum from purposeful to fanciful – there were plenty of cars modded for serious track duty, but it’s also clear that “stance” isn’t going to go away any time soon. One thing you’ll definitely notice in the video is that contrast between the cars with square-to-the-pavement Proxes race rubber, and the stretched-and-tucked camber crowd.
Regardless of whether you prefer function or form, there was something interesting to see at Autocon. Sediq adds, “We’ve supported Autocon for several years. It’s a great way to keep the Toyo brand in front of enthusiasts in SoCal, which has one of the largest import tuner and European car cultures in the U.S.”
If you want to see more of Autocon Los Angeles 2016, check out their giant photo gallery, and if you’re in SoCal, be sure to mark the next event on Toyo’s calendar, called Shutter Space. “It’s an automotive photo gallery mixed with a car meet,” Sediq explains. “This event will be held in Costa Mesa on June 25th from 9am-1pm and will feature 15 pieces from an open photo contest we held. It will also feature a few vehicle unveils as well as a collection of some of the best cars in SoCal.”
