The sound of thunder came rolling into Texas in March as the annual TX2K went down. This year a herd of thousands of the fastest, well street racing machines poured into Houston for TX2K13. Fast cars of all shapes and sizes stretched as far as the eye can see. Cars such as Corvettes, Lambos, Mustangs, exotics and American muscle flooded the streets of Houston.
On the morning of March 15, thousands of cars filled the parking garage of the Omni Hotel. Instead of being full Camry’s and family SUV’s, C6 Vettes, nitrous F-Bodies, turbo Surpas and turbo Fox Body Mustangs filled the parking spaces. TX2k13 has turned the Omni’s multi-story garage into gearhead Heaven.
Several street racing legends could be seen at the Omni, these included Red Dragon; a monstrous 1000 HP turbo charged cherry red Silverado. Also attending was MYSTICHROME a beastly 1300 HP twin turbo 4.6l Mustang Cobra and the infamous 4 50 Slow Supra could be spotted as well.
After a morning of bench racing and showing off cars it was time for TX2K13 to really get underway. The first event was a pull that took place at Hennessey Performance.
However, only 30 cars were able to make a pull as Hennessey experienced maintenance trouble after a high powered Ford GT not only broke the dyno straps but the dyno as well. The event organizers called the dyno pull and crowned a Ford Cobra as the most powerful car with 1222 HP.
Since the dyno pull ended earlier than expected, Hennessey decided to take the time to show off their pride and joy: a Twin Turbo 1000+ HP Dodge Viper.
The drivers made last minute prep to their cars before heading off to Lonestar Motorsports park. Drivers could be seen, packing parachutes and performing last checks under the hood. The first handful cars began to leave the parking garage and in true street racer fashion, peeling out onto the highway.

By night fall the thousands of cars packed into the pits of Lonestar Motorsport Park. The atmosphere was wild and exciting as Motorcycles could be seen performing wheelies. The riders did their best Jason Britton impersonations as they showed off their bikes and their skills.
After the motorcycle show, TX2K13 was officially underway with a burnout contest. The first car to go was a silver Supra, it had a strong start but maintenance troubles prevented a successful burnout. The Supra was followed by several odd cars including a Jeep Grand Cheerokee and a Ford Explorer.
Next was a Kawasaki motorcycle, this rider was a true showmen. He performed a smokey burnout while he stood on top of his bike. As a finisher, he back flipped off his bike, this lead to much praise from the crowd.
Lastly, an orange late model Ford Focus roasted his front tires, this covered the entire track (lanes & stands) in a smokey cloud. This smokey cloud ensured first place for the Ford, the owner was awarded with a $250 cash prize.
After the burnout contest was over, drivers showed off their pride & joy’s with a cackle fest in the pits and more burnouts. Some of the coolest cars included 5th gen Mustang drag car, a blown 4th gen Camaro, a turbo C6 Corvette, and an F350 Super Duty. What made this cacklefest great was not just the engines but the crowd.
The crowd sound more like they belonged at Fenway Park rather a drag race. Mustang fans were thrash talking the Camaro’s that came by, Chevy fans were heckling Mustangs, Supra fans heckled both and muscle car fans heckled any car that wasn’t powered by a V-8. Their rowdiness and wild the energy was a equivalent of a Phillies- Mets game.
Lonestar Motorsports closed up for the night and would reopen again for the drag racing in the morning. Many racers returned to the Omni others hit the bars but several couldn’t wait till tomorrow to satisfy their racing hunger so they headed for the streets.
A large group of racers drove to the outskirts of town for some racing. The first match up was between Footlead a Red 4th Gen Camaro powered by an LS1 tuned with a Cam and a 100 shot of nitrous, this car raced Edub a black 4th Gen Camaro with an LS1, Cam, 100 Shot of Nitrous tied to a stalled Th400 transmission. Footlead took the hole shot but Edub overtook him just before the finish line to secure the win.
The next match up featured Mustang Billy who drove a grey Fox Body Mustang powered by a build 427 with spray. His opponent was FR8TRN the deadly silver E85 1000 HP turbo charged LS1 Trans Am. Both cars were even off the line but Billy would win the race by 3 car lengths.

Setting up to the plate was Imposter an early 4th Gen Mustang with an LSX motor with 2 shots of nitrous under it’s hood. His victim was an unknown nitrous powered coupe. Imposter took the whole shot and beat the coupe by “the length of a bus.”

Edub wanted a second race and decided to take on the infamous Beater Bomb Mustang. Little is known about the Beater Bomb except it has a cammed 5.3L LS and spray. Beater who started the race in the left lane, crossed into the right behind Edub and took the win.

A Mustang coupe from Dallas with an LS408, 200 shot of nitrous and 275 tire challenged Mustang Billy to a race. The Coupe did a wheel stand off the line and took the win.
On Saturday March 16th The Cars returned to Lonestar Motorsports Park for some drag racing action. Many exciting match ups took place, one such was between a hot rodded Mustang GT500 vs a Cadillac CTS with drag tires while the CTS was fast, the Mustang came out on top.
Another great match up was between a white a 4th Gen Camaro Z28 known as Land Shark (named for it’s exhaust sticking out of it’s hood) powered by a turbo 427 and against a 5th gen Mustang drag car. Land Shark took shot off the starting line and flew to the finish to secure win.

This race was followed by a sick green 4th Gen Mustang Cobra drag car racing a Nissan 240sx. The Cobra violently left the starting line on two wheels and crushed the Nissan with a 9.45 ET. At the event was a 2400 HP Twin Turbo Dodge Viper drag car complete with wheelie bars and a parachute. During a test pass the Viper’s tires wouldn’t hook and it coasted to the finish.
FR8TRAN the wild Trans Am stepped up to the plate to race a Supra. Sadly the Trans Ams turbo’s spooled late and he was only able to pull a 10 second run losing by a few lengths to the Supra.
A 1185 HP Dodge Cummings Diesel with 1900 plus LB Ft of torque produced by a single 75mm turbo and a 170 & 190 shots of nitrous who took on a supercharged Dodge Viper. Right off the line the Dodge Diesel smoked the Supra for a win. The Dodge Cummings then took on a turbo Supra with drag tires who he also left in a cloud of smoke.
Later the Land Shark retunred to race a green Supra. The Supra was no match for Land Shark as it blew it’s doors off with a 9.49 ET compared to the Supra’s 11 second ET.
By the evening the action at Lonestar began to wand down and the cars again head for the streets. Stance Autoworks one of the sponsors of TX2K13 had gathered over 300 cars for some high octane street racing action.
The pack headed out to outskirts of Houston for some roll racing. The first roll was between a C6 Corvette against a GTR. The Corvette took off and left the Nissan in the dust. The next race was between a Corvette and a Dodge Challenger, this Corvette also took the win.
Part of the pack headed to a back road to do some digs. The first race was between two hot rodded Fox Bodies, the left lane took the win in this match up. Next race was between a Fox body and a 4th Gen with the 4th victorious.
FR8TRAIN came out for a second night of digs. His opponent was a Fox Body Mustang that was some how able to crush a 1000 HP F-Body. After dig racing the cars headed back out on the highway for more roll racing. Everything from Supra’s to Vette’s to Stang’s where racing, these cars were flying as they reached phenomenal speeds of 180-220 MPH.
The cars were back at Lonestar on Sunday March 17th, For the final day of TX2K13. Sunday’s races featured some of the wildest cars including supercharged Mustangs, blown Camaro’s and turbo C6’s. Not only were cars racing but a few extend wheel drag bikes also participated in Sunday’s races.
Mustangs at Lonestar.
A Suzuki drag bike, challenged a Mustang drag car. while the Mustang was fast pulling off a 10 second run it was no match for the 9 second ET of the Zuki. Later on a Fox Body Mustang destroyed a Nissan GTR and left it sitting in a cloud of smoke.
The Beater Bomb Mustang challenged a drag bike, the race was neck and neck with the bike coming out on top, both vehicles ran 9 second ET’s. Ford happened to be testing a prototype of the new Cobra Jet Mustang. They made a secret test pass that was not clocked through the speed trap.
After a long weekend of racing TX2K13 came to end, the thunder over Texas came to a stop. It was a fun weekend of nonstop street racing action, it was a chance for people to run their cars to their fullest. Thank you to Wyldfanties, Stance Auto and 1320 video for the coverage.
