This Blown 1968 Pro Street AMX Is A Mean Machine

AMC jumped into the automotive world and made waves. The company wasn’t afraid to design and build cars that were different from what the big boys in Detroit were cranking out. The 1968 AMX is one of those unique cars and this one has been turned into a wild Pro Street machine.

You don’t see a lot of AMXs on the road these days, and that’s one of the reasons that Todd decided to buy this car. When Todd purchased the AMX it was in really good shape and it gave him a great canvas to start the build. Todd always enjoyed Pro Street-style builds, so it only made sense to add a big blower and set of fast tires to the AMX. The final product is a totally rowdy Pro Street car that’s got a cool look to it.

The AMX is powered by a 383 cubic-inch small-block Chevy that’s based around an ultra-strong Dart block. On top of the small-block you’ll find a set of Dart heads and billet riser that acts as the throne for the massive supercharger. Air and fuel is funneled into the blower via a set of Holley Demon carburetors.  The engine cranks out a healthy 1,000 horsepower, so it’s no slouch, and will roast the Mickey Thompson tires in a hurry.

Under the front of the AMX you’ll find suspension parts from Control Freaks that use Viking shocks. Out back, there’s a four-link suspension with coilover shocks and a Ford 9” rearend. Wilwood brakes bring the AMX to a stop in a hurry. Todd added a set of classic Cragar wheels to the AMX to give it that perfect Pro Street look.

Inside the AMX Todd added a set of new front seats for comfort. AEM gauges keep Todd informed about how the engine is doing and how much gas is still in the tank. The center consol was modified to hold the B&M shifter that controls the TH350 transmission.

Austin Collins from Hot Rod Heaven USA goes into great detail with Todd about the AMX in this video. You’ll want to check out the video to see the AMX abuse its tires and scream down the road.
