Grassroots racing is the true backbone of modern drag racing, as local tracks across the country host weekly races and test and tune sessions. There are some tracks out there that host their own special racing series, and in the northern part of Ohio you can check out the Renegade Racing Association (RRA), a series that has index racing as well has heads-up action.
A few index racers that didn’t want to go back to bracket racing got together and came up with the Renegade Racing Association. Al Matuska, Paul Suloff, Chris Klink, and Tom Cowle are the founding four of the RRA that formulated the rules and format.
The RRA has been around since 2009 and mostly competes at Thompson Raceway Park in northeast Ohio. Index classes consisting of 8.90, 9.90, and 10.50 are run at each event, and Outlaw Limited Street is also contested at RRA events and has been growing fast.
This coming season is shaping up to be the biggest in the history of the RRA. You will find racers from all over the tri-state and beyond come out to participate in the series. A total of 9 events will be held across the northern portion of Ohio, as the series has expanded to other tracks including Quaker City Motorsports Park and Summit Motorsport Park. Make sure to check out the series website renegaderacingassociation.com for all the dates, rules, and some killer videos.
