With the USA Cycling Time Trials taking place on Saturday in Chattanooga, Tennessee, what better way is there to break-in the course than a wild ride with Tanner Foust in his awesome 900 horsepower LS7 Volkswagen Passat?

Pro cyclist Tim Johnson rides along with Foust in the video, showing him the ins and outs of the course, giving him playful constructive criticism about his transitions, and how important it is not to get lost in a time trial. Foust, out of all people, probably knows a thing or two about time trials, being in almost every kind of motorsport and all. In the short minute-and-fifteen-second video, Foust makes use of any roundabouts and turnarounds to do what he does best.

If you weren’t able to make it to the first round of Formula Drift in the Streets of Long Beach, this video is a great way to hear how that unique 8-into-1 header attached to the LS7 under the hood of Foust’s Passat. The sound is unlike anything we’ve ever heard out of an LS engine, and it’s really awe inspiring. Once Foust and Johnson get to the turnaround point, there were two police officers blocking off the road for the shoot, so Foust did what he felt was right, and that involved leaving the officers in a nice plume of tire smoke.

One thing we also noticed is that Foust’s car employs a 6-speed manual transmission with a regular H-pattern shifter, rather than a sequential box that almost all drifters utilize in this day and age. Props to you for keeping it real, Tanner!
