Stewart And Hagan Ride Into Richmond Ready To Win

The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads to Virginia Motorsports Park for the American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals this weekend. The Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) duo of Tony Stewart and Matt Hagan are rolling into Virginia ready to continue their push towards the Regular Season points finale and Countdown To The Championship.

2025 has turned into a breakout drag racing season for Tony Stewart. He currently leads the Top Fuel points standings and is 76 points ahead of multi-time NHRA champion Shawn Langdon. Stewart has won plenty of points series titles during his long racing career, and winning an NHRA Regular Season championship is now a reality for Smoke.

“I definitely think we have a shot at it right now. This is the hot part of the summer, and this is where I felt all along this year that our car has been at its best. When the tracks get hot, they get greasy and hard to get a hold of. I feel like our program really suits this time of the year, so I definitely think it’s a possibility to get the regular season championship,” Stewart says.

Matt Hagan currently sits fifth in the Funny Car points and is just 109 points behind leader Austin Prock. The new crew chief combination of Mike Knudsen and Phil Shuler on Hagan have been pecking away at the car and continue to see positive progress.

The Virginia race is a home event for Hagan and American Rebel Beer is also his primary sponsor for this weekend. This makes the entire event even more for Hagan and his team.

“I’m excited about having American Rebel on the car and also have them as a sponsor of the event. It’ll be great having Andy Ross (American Rebel CEO) out there and he’s also going to play a concert for the fans. He’s growing the brand and we’re excited to help him do that. Charlotte was a great event when he sponsored the NHRA race, which then opened the opportunity to sell his product at the Coca-Cola 600. There’s been a lot of cross promotion. Drag racing opens the door to a lot of things and we’re excited to be part of that. I can’t wait to get to Richmond after getting to enjoy a weekend off,” Hagan says.

The American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals are the ninth stop on the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and could be huge for TSR racing. Stay tuned to Dragzine for all of our NHRA racing coverage.
