Some Nutty Australian Wants To LS Swap A Skyline

History repeating itself isn’t always a bad thing. Fans of GM’s high-performance V8 engine will remember the craze of swapping a 350 small-block Chevy into virtually any application imaginable, and the upward trend with LS engines is really no different. Much like the 350ci SBC, LS engines are tried-and-true, inexpensive pushrod V8s that will fit in just about any platform you can think of.

That fact alone is a large portion of why they appeal to many of us, and it’s also why builders like Al of The Skid Factory choose to work with them. Al works with the guys at Mighty Car Mods based out of Australia, and when the shop’s fabricator Matt, unfortunately, blew the engine in his 1998 Nissan Skyline sedan, they knew just the mill to replace it with.

Matt’s R32 Skyline sedan wasn’t rocking the RB20 inline-six engine it came from the factory with though, because he blew that, too. In fact, they replaced that engine with another Nissan variety, a VG30DETT, which is a factory turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 found mainly in the twin-turbo 300ZX. When the VG30 blew up during a track outing one day, Matt and Al immediately began brainstorming what to swap into the Skyline next.

They considered using a VH45DE DOHC V8 engine from an Infiniti Q45, but at the end of the day, settled on the proven LS1 V8 engine. Naturally, Australians like to do things bigger and better like us, so having nearly twice the displacement in comparison to before wasn’t good enough, so Matt and Al decided to throw a single turbocharger on the new LS1 and let ‘er eat.
