It has been a huge year for the motorsports endeavors of Mercedes-Benz, with the German automaker coming out on top in many of the arenas where it was a contestant. First and foremost is of course Mercedes AMG’s domination of the Formula One circuit, winning both the Driver’s and Constructor’s Championship with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg heading up a victorious season.
The winning extended well past Formula One though, and Mercedes is celebrating its many motorsports successes in 2015 with an 80s-tastic video. Featuring DJ Hamilton spinning vinyl, an 8-bit rendition of its race cars, and lots of pastel neon colors that remind us of Miami Vice, it’s one of those videos you’ll either love or hate, with very little middle ground in between
In addition to its Formula One victories, Mercedes can also count its driver and team wins in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) touring car championship with Pascal Wehrlein at the helm. Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig won the ADAC GT Masters for Mercedes, with Felix Rosenqvist bringing home the Formula 3 championship in 2015 too.
The video celebrates all of these victories set to the tune of 80s-style synthesized electro. 80s nostalgia is in full swing in this video, with Hamilton ditching his racing suit for the turntables and lots of CGI racing action zipping across the screen. “Won Year” is definitely a polarizing video tribute, though all that really matters is that Mercedes needs a bigger trophy case. Will Mercedes motorsports domination continue through 2016, or will it be overtaken by any of the number of competitors also racing for the checkered flag?
