The crew of The Build still have their hands full of things to do on their 1965 Malibu project car, but they continue to make strides forward with the finished car just barely out of sight. This week, the project their working on is mocking up the rear differential and straightening out the rear package tray. Check out all the work that went into these projects in the above.

To keep the rear differential in place and ensure that the springs in the rear of the car don’t get stretched or compressed out of shape, the crew of The Build opted to re-install the old shocks just for the time being. While the shocks will eventually be replaced with something a bit more substantial, the old pair make for good mock-up devises in this case.

Once the differential is mocked up, the crew can move on to straightening out the Malibu’s rear package tray without worrying about the rear of the car bouncing up and down.

With a crank and pulley system, a handful of American Modern crew members wedge, pull and massage the rear package tray back into place, or at least as close as they can get it using substantial machinery. Once the package tray is generally the right position, a bit of fine-tuning and minor massaging will be needed to get the tray squared away into exactly the shape the crew of The Build is looking to get.
