Video: Ken Block Drives The New Ford GT At Le Mans

Life is good if you are Mr. Ken Block. The FIA World RX driver got the chance this month to hang out with the team at Ford Chip Ganassi Racing as they battled their way to another podium finish with the Ford GT at the 85th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Just getting the chance to attend a Le Mans race in itself is bucket list worthy, and Ford Performance had a little surprise in store for the head Hoonigan. And that surprise was a triple yellow Ford GT ready and waiting for the Focus RS RX driver to get behind the wheel and enjoy!

I have been begging Ford for about a year and a half to be able to drive one. — Ken Block, Hoonigan Racing Division

While most of us imagine that professional drivers sponsored by Ford would have already had the chance to test drive the new supercar months ago, this is simply not the case. Because of their busy race season schedules, more often than not, it just doesn’t work out.

“I have been begging Ford for about a year and a half to be able to drive one, so I finally got my chance in Le Mans of all places,” Ken enthused.

For Ken Block, whose team is currently battling for the top spot in the 2017 FIA World RX Championship, finding the time to step away to explore the new Ford GT can be difficult. Luckily it all worked out, and the team at Ford Performance had the pre-production Ford GT ready for Ken to enjoy both on the track and through the beautiful French countryside at Le Mans.

Although, sadly, no Hooning was involved in the making of these videos, just the thought of being able to get the chance to test drive the Ford GT at Le Mans is something many of us can only dream of doing.

“It was a pretty amazing experience to be able to drive this circuit in the GT and have the whole thing to myself,” Ken added on social media.

And, in case you missed it, the team at Ford Chip Ganassi Racing had a pretty impressive day as well. The No. 67 Ford GT driven by Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell, and Pipo Derani finished in second-place at the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans. In fact, all four Ford GT’s successfully completed the iconic endurance race! Click here for a full race recap.
