Flowmaster is doing its part to move us into a brave new post-v8 world. A pair of muffler options, along with a full cat-back exhaust system, enable 2025 RAM 1500 drivers to hear their 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six Hurricane engines roar.
In 2003, Dodge Ram pickup trucks dropped their 230hp Magnum 5.9-liter V8 engines for the all new 345hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8. When Stellantis finally announced the new 2025 Ram 1500 would arrive with an all-new 3.0 twin-turbo inline, enthusiasts were unhappy to say the least.
The sound and feel of a large and powerful V8 can never be replaced. Enthusiasts seem to have made their minds up on that one. However, just because the V8 is out (until it returns for 2026, anyway), doesn’t mean its replacement can’t also be good. Although the 3.0-liter Hurricane is more powerful than the HEMI, many customers feel it falls short in the sound department. That’s where Flowmaster comes in.
Flowmaster Turns Up The Noise… and Power!
Flowmaster’s all-new 2025 Ram 1500 3.0L exhaust system is designed to make the most of the Ram’s new powerplant, both in sound and performance. These systems are direct bolt on kits for easy install. The full 3.0-inch cat-back setup includes a Y-pipe with revised equal length geometry, a crossover section to reduce and even out back pressure, and a resonator just behind each tip to reduce drone.
Flowmaster additionally shared noticeable bumps in power and torque as seen above. Let’s not forget, Stellantis didn’t ditch the V8 for nothing. The Hurricane is a stout competitor that puts up serious numbers from the factory. Below are specs for the 5.7-liter HEMI in its 20th year in production, versus the brand new 3.0-liter Hurricane in both High Output and Standard Output variations.
3.0 Hurricane HO | 540hp | 521lbft | 15/21mpg |
3.0 Hurricane SO | 420hp | 469lbft | 18/25mpg |
5.7 Hemi | 395hp | 410lbft | 15/22mpg |
Flowmaster’s Muffler-Only Option For Hurricane
If you’re looking for a smaller project, Flowmaster offers a muffler section only, which connects directly to the factory 2.75” exhaust. Buyers can choose from two separate sound profiles, including FlowFx for a moderate bump in sound, and American Thunder for a louder more aggressive roar. Although the Hurricane inline six will never sound identical to a V8, Flowmaster’s catback and muffler lets the new powerplant breathe better and allows some of its unique character to come through. Their mufflers and exhaust are compatible with both versions of the 3.0 Hurricane.
As Ram has recently reopened the ability to opt for a V8 in 2026 model year trucks (for an additional $1,200 over the standard output I6), it will be interesting to see how many customers stick with the 3.0-liter Hurricane. The V8 has a better sound and a more proven record. In confusing times, many will be tempted by the cheaper, quicker, more efficient engine. Flowmaster’s 3.0-liter mufflers and catback exhaust for the 2025 Ram 1500 make that choice a little easier.
