If you’re a car lover across the midwestern part of the United States, we’ve got some good news for you. The Hot Rod Power Tour, a massive five-day rolling car show with over 6,000 vehicles, kicks off this Monday, June 9th.
What’s better? Chevrolet Performance is once again returning as one of the tour’s main sponsors, and plans to bring some serious muscle to the party!
Chevy’s main attraction this year is its monstrous, 1,004 horsepower ZZ632 big-block crate engine. Fans will get to see this V8, the biggest and most powerful in Chevy’s history, for the first time on the tour, bolted inside a 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna.
The company will also display other cool engine swaps to show enthusiasts exactly how they can transform their rides with high quality crate motors; including a 1978 Silverado 4×4 with a modern L8T engine and a 1988 Monte Carlo with the firm’s perennial LS376/525 V8.
A selection of official pace cars and dedicated off-road vehicles will also join the Chevy Performance display. Chevy does note that these specific crate engines are designed for competition vehicles only and not for use on public highways.
Along with showcasing some serious new hardware, Chevy is celebrating a huge milestone. This year marks the 70th anniversary of its legendary small-block V8.
This is the same engine family that earned the nickname Mighty Mouse and powered classics like the 1955 Corvette and Bel Air, beginning a seven-decade legacy of American performance that continues to this very day with car enthusiasts and do-it-yourselfers.
For those looking to join the action, the tour begins in Indianapolis, Indiana. From there, it travels to Joliet, Illinois; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Monroe, Michigan. The five-day event wraps up on June 13 in Norwalk, Ohio. So, make sure to plan ahead.
Hot Rod Power Tour has always been a huge week for gearheads. With Chevrolet celebrating a major anniversary and showing off some of its most powerful engines ever, this year’s event is set to be an epic rolling celebration of all-American car culture.
