With the close of 5th gen production, so too ends the story of Camaro assembly at GM’s plant in the Canadian city of Oshawa, Ontario. New 2016 Camaros will go together at a facility in Lansing, Michigan, and the departure of the assembly line has become a sore subject among Canadians, as it will likely lead to the loss of a thousand or so jobs.

Strange, then, that earlier this week Canada’s Conservative Party released a campaign video entitled “Proven Leadership” that includes a photo of Camaros being assembled at the Oshawa plant. A voiceover by Prime Minister Stephen Harper touts the party’s leadership on issues like terrorism and the recovery from the economic slowdown.

The unfortunate result is an ad that has drawn more negative attention than positive, but per the National Post, the Conservative Party is doing their best to mitigate the damage. “…all of our ads released today speak for themselves,” says party spokesman Cory Hann. “They show what Canadians already know — that being prime minister is not an entry-level job and requires proven leadership to make hard decisions, like how best to keep Canada safe from the threats of jihadi terrorism. They also show (Liberal Party Leader) Justin Trudeau’s inexperience …”

We’re guessing that the inexperience of somebody at the Conservative Party’s ad agency might lead to getting fired for this gaffe, but you’d think that with the loss of manufacturing jobs being such a hot topic, somebody in the party responsible for proofing the video would have caught it before it was posted.
