Summer may be over, but the action of the Cadillac Challenge Series presented by Toyo Tires and the D3 Group, is still going strong. Both round 6 and 7 are in the books for this year’s series, and we’re happy to report that there have been even more shake-ups in the standings thanks to some new faces and close competition.
For Round 6 of the Cadillac Challenge Series headed to Buttonwillow Raceway Park, near Buttonwillow, California for the first time during the series. Cooler temps earlier in the morning meant that all the competitors were trying hard to lay down their best lap times as quickly as possible, before the afternoon heat got ramped up.
In Class C1, points leader Steve C. was able to pull out yet another win in his flat-black CTS-V with a best lap time of 2:12.603.
In Class C2, Ed Wagner took advantage of the absence of points leader Karim T., and pulled off his second straight win with a time of 2:12.693.
In unlimited modified Class C3, the ranks were shook up by a brand new entry; Gary Torres in his beastly silver 1st Gen CTS-V. Torres’ rolled his fully race prepped CTS-V on the grid, and the Class C3 competition quickly turned into a three-way battle between Torres, Team HeaVyweight Racing, and The D3 Legionnaire. However, in the end it would be new comer Torres on top with a lap time of 2:03.242. Could there be a new sheriff in town for C3? Only time will tell…
Congrats to Ed Wagner, Steve Collins, and new comer Gary Torres on their class wins.
Round 7 – Auto Club Speedway
For Round 7 of the Series, returned to the high-speed straightaways of Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana California. A lot has changed since the series was first at Auto Club Raceway for Round 1 back in March.
Class leader of C1, Steve C. pulled off his third straight victory with a best lap time around Fontana of 1:58.041 and pushed his points lead out of reach of many of the other competitors. The question now becomes whether or not he can hold on until the end of the series.
The consecutive wins club also extended to Class C2, where Ed Wagner scored his third win in a row since moving up from C1 with a 1:57.119.
The back-and-forth battles in C3 also continued in Fontana, this time with Bob Michaels winning Fontana for the second time this year in the black Team HeaVyweight CTS-V, with a lap time of 1:55.088.
When the Cadillac Challenge Series returned to Fontana, Collins and Wagner once again found themselves in the winners' circle, while Michaels and Team HeaVyweight made their way back to the top of Class C3.
