“Breaking The Law” – Update on Turbo 5.3L Crown Vic

If there’s one thing we really love around here, it’s a good LS powered sleeper. Back at the end of October we showed you Cameron Powers’ awesome Turbo 5.3L swapped Ford Crown Victoria that has become known as “The Law” – but we have to admit that we got a few of the details wrong. Powers got in touch with us and let us know that the car actually weighs closer to 3,900 pounds than the 4,300 we reported. Also, the video we showed of the Vic going 11.80 in the quarter was actually when the car still had a full bolt-on nitroused Ford mod motor (which is still pretty impressive). With the turbo 5.3L The Law regularly dips below the 7-second mark in the 1/8th mile.

The Law has a 76mm Master Power turbo pushing over 22 PSI through the stock 5.3L.

Powers hasn’t had a chance to take The Law down the 1320 with the turbo LS combo as of yet, and it looks like it might be a few months before it makes it. It’s mostly because of the recent cylinder block weight reduction mod that was performed by one of the connecting rods on a recent trip to the 1/8th mile track. The 182,000 mile Suburban engine finally gave up the ghost right after a hard launch, spitting piston and rod remains all over the track, leaving The Law broken. “I don’t know if it was the miles, or the 22.5 PSI and 18-degrees of timing that killed it,” Powers tells us. “But I picked up another 5.3L shortblock for $50, and it’s going in this winter after we do a re-ring job and a quick hone on the block.”

Block-window mod and connecting rod carnage FTL.

You can’t keep a good gearhead down, and we’re sure that Powers will have The Law back out busting unsuspecting opponents in no time. For now, check out Powers’ build thread here, and keep it tuned to LSXTV for more updates!
