The BAC Mono made quite the splash at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with its updated 2.5-liter 305 hp dry-sump engine by unofficially setting the fastest time for a production car.
Here, we see Oliver Webb piloting the updated BAC Mono while he battles it out with a sinister McLaren P1. The BAC Mono and the McLaren P1 are possibly two of the fastest vehicles that money can buy in this day and age, but they’re both very different in so many ways. McLaren gave the P1 a complex hybrid system to boost power and efficiency on the track, and on the street as well, while the BAC Mono is a pure track day monster with the capability to be street driven. You can See Jay Leno testing out a BAC Mono here.
When the two cars make their way out onto the track, we were expecting the P1 to just obliterate the Mono in the straights, but we were quite surprised. The power-to-weight ratio of the Mono is great because its such a little car and weighs 1,500 pounds. Although the Mono and the P1 were duking it out on the track, this was more of a play session than an actual race session, but we still enjoy seeing the two very different cars out on track with one another.
Both cars are very capable, but the BAC Mono is the easier one to attain in this case, being that the P1 costs upwards of $1.1M. For more information about the Mono, check out their website, or hit up Sector 111, who is conveniently located right down the road from us in Temecula, CA.
