Almost everyone on our side of the planet thinks the Aussies are crazy. The Brasher Nats, held in Sydney recently, proves it. The Brasher Nats looks like a combination of drifting competition and NASCAR winner’s burnout. They’re not doing burnouts to celebrate a win, though. The competition is all about showing off your burnout ability.

The Brasher Nats is a competition in Australia to see who can do the most entertaining burnout in two minutes. Sicko was one of the best at the recent competition.

Ignoring the right-hand drive, the first thing noticed was that several of the cars are what we Americans would consider front-wheel drive vehicles. However, all of them are rear-wheel drive. There are Chevys, Fords, Hyundais, Subarus, and more. They’re also split between late- and early-model vehicles.

Some of the cars appear to either have special “burnout tires” or tires that are specially prepped for this event. Most of the burnouts seen in the video look “fairly normal” with white tire smoke being kicked up in huge clouds. One was spitting out smoke in two colors – green and purple. There were also cars shooting out other colors such as green and yellow.

Imagine seeing this little four-banger running a burnout like this.

The video above is of the best qualifying passes (called TIP INS Down Under) at the recent Sydney Brasher Nats. These guys and gals in all kinds of cars are awesome. There are four classes of competitors at this event: Blown, V8, 4/6/rotary, and women’s. The winner of the Blown was Steve Loader in his UCSMOKE.

Here’s how the event works: drivers start in a staging lane similar to an NHRA event except there is no Christmas Tree and there’s only one lane. When given the signal to start, the driver initiates their burnout. They then have two minutes to put as much smoke in the air and cover as much of the competition arena/track as possible. Drivers are then graded on style, length of the burnout, and audience reaction. We definitely need something like this in the States. What do you think?
