Some of us here are old enough to remember when “underglow” car lighting first became a thing. Originally achieved using actual neon tubes, the original kits were expensive, the lights themselves were fragile and didn’t withstand the elements too well, and you were limited to a single color, unless you installed multiple tubes.

Light-emitting diodes (or just LED for short) changed all that. Their robust nature, compact size, and availability in multiple colors made them ideal for a new generation of “look at me” car lighting. Tthough the mainstream popularity of underglow lighting had already come and gone with the same shelf life as a bunch of green bananas, the introduction of LED kits still revolutionized the way high school kids wasted their parents’ money modifying perfectly good cars.

With LED lighting, all sorts of things became possible, like wheel well accent lights, color-changing effects that could be shifted to any hue of the rainbow at the touch of a remote, and even inset lighting strips concealed in body gaps. But just because something is possible doesn’t make it a good idea, which brings us to the video we have here.

Once again, we recognize the fact that people are free to like whatever they want as long as they aren’t hurting anyone else, and we respect the commitment to the theme this 2014 Camaro represents. But lighting up a Chevy like approach to runway 24R at LAX just isn’t appealing to us.
