SEMA VIDEO: Factory Five Offers Build School and Unique Paint Colors

IMG_5886Fixing up a project car can be intimidating for first-time tinkerers. Building a car from scratch … well that can be downright terrifying. But if you’re new to the world of performance car building and still want to piece together your dream car, rest easy. Factory Five is here to help.

If you don’t know if you have the skills to build a factory five, you don’t have to worry about it,” says Dave Smith of Factory Five. “Just go to a three-day build school.

The company has teamed up with Mott Community College in Howell, Michigan to provide a three-day build school for anyone curious about how to build a Factory five MK4 Roadster or ’33 Hotrod. While enrollment in the class will set you back $799, Factory five rewards graduates with a $500 voucher toward the purchase of a Factory Five kit.

It [the school] lasts three days,” adds Jim Jennings of Mott College. “We start off with a bare frame and by Sunday, we’ve got a drivable car.”

For three days of automotive education and the assurance that your car will go together perfectly, $300 is a small price to pay.

Also new for the company is a joint venture with Sherman William’s Automotive Paints. The companies teamed up to develop a Factory-Five-Unique 17-color palette.“We picked the colors from a combination of vintage replica colors and some modern colors that really look good,” said Smith.

Most importantly, though, putting together a Factory Five car is about being part of community.

“It’s more than building a car, you are going out and building relationships; a family,” Erik Hansen of Factory Five. “Everybody is part of everybody else’s builds.”
