Yesterday, we brought you news of the 2019 Mustang Lithium on display at Ford’s main stage during the SEMA show. Today, as we walked past, we noticed the hood on the Mustang was popped! We managed to find more information on the systems that power the unique electric Mustang build. Here are the details!

Electric Motor

Phi-Power makes the Mustang’s electric motor in partnership with Webasto. The dual-core electric motor mates to the Pony’s factory manual transmission. It puts out an astounding 1,000 lb-ft of torque. The motor is compact, customized for power and torque density, liquid-resistant, and capable of 1,000 horsepower.

Mustang Prototype Battery System

The prototype Mustang’s battery system is capable of 1 megawatt of discharge. A battery pack in the engine bay and another battery pack over the rear axle compose the 800V battery system. The electric motor is protected by this emissions-free system, eliminating the need to resort to the use of fossil fuels. It has an energy rating of 75kWh, and features EVDrive High Power Density Technology.

Webasto CV Standard Production Battery

The included battery is intended for street and commercial use. It’s a 35kWh CV Standard Battery Pack, capable of stacking up to 350kWh. It’s a modular solution with a vehicle interface box and battery management system.

Thermal Management

Perhaps most important is the car’s thermal management system. It ensures safe operation and durability. The battery system keeps warm and cool through a dedicated coolant loop. Inverters and motors are kept performing at peak performance thanks to liquid cooling as well. It features high-voltage liquid heating up to 10kW, active and passive liquid cooling, and thermal management for the battery, the interior cabin, and the electric motor.
