The 2018 SEMA Show is giving us a glimpse at what’s new in the off-road market. Today, we’re looking at Dana and its AdvanTEK features. These upgrades are built into current and future aftermarket products, and are even found in current OEM models like the Ford Super Duty, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, and Jeep Wrangler JL.
In talking with Dana’s Randall Spier, we learned that AdvanTEK is a defining trait of next-level drivetrain parts, including axle housings, ring-and-pinion sets, and more. “We found efficiencies in the whole system of the axle that we put together to make a big deal,” said Spier.
AdvanTEK ring gears and pinions, like these Dana 44 units, benefit from a refined tooth design, more compact dimensions, and added strength.
For example, whne talking rings and pinions, Dana experts optimized the tooth design and pinion offset in what they called a “Power Density Package.” As Spier explained, “It allowed us to shrink the ring gear diameter, which gave use less mass, and less weight. But, we maintained or increased strength. Now the system uses up less space, and that improves ground clearance.”
Adding to these changes were improvements to other components, from bearings, to seals, to pinion stems. “When you put it all together, that’s AdvanTEK,” said Spier. “It’s great for the off-roading community. Now, you can get more power to the wheels, get some more efficiency out of the fuel consumption, and enjoy added ground clearance, too.”
Dana has shown once again how committed it is to providing off-roaders with better products. With AdvanTEK making its way through OEM and aftermarket applications, the company has charted a course for innovation. To find out more, be sure to check out the Dana website and Facebook page.
