SEMA 2015: Koul Tools’ New Line of Lapping Tools

_MG_9849Koul Tools was founded in 2005 as a family business. Based in Lake Havasu City, Arizona it caters to hot rod, street rod, and classic car enthusiasts and restoration shops. We caught up with owner Dick Raczuk at the 2015 SEMA Show who told us that Koul Tools was born to solve the problem of dealing with AN hoses and push-on fittings used in so many of these vehicles.

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 9.05.44 PMRaczuk spoke passionately about the company he started, its success, and latest developments. “I came up with our products because I felt I owed it back to the industry,” he said. “I retired in 1985 and started working on a project car. When I needed a tool I couldn’t find it, so I made one.”

Everybody thought it was a cool “Koul” tool, so Raczuk took a shot and patented the funnel.

I needed a tool that would do the job, but when I went to buy it, there wasn’t one. So I made one for myself. – Dick Raczuk, Koul Tools

The tool allowed for an easy way to do push-on systems. Raczuk said, “I had leaks on the brake lines of my cars and nothing was working, so I came up with the slapping tool, and here we are. Our tools fill an industry need … other tool companies are noticing us and have visited our booth to see our new products.”

All Koul Tools are fluid transfer assembly tools. SEMA 2015 was the perfect platform for Raczuk to introduce its newest tool, the SurSeat Line Lapper.

_MG_9844Raczuk envisioned the SurSeat Line Lapper as a solution to leaky fittings, based on the practice of lapping engine valves. It gently laps in a flared tubing end for a better seal, and it helps smooth out irregularities caused by flaring the tube, saving a lot of time and headache.

The SurSeat P-51 works with flared tubing from 3/16-inch to 1/2-inch in diameter, and includes 37- and 45-degree diamond dust lapping heads. Collets for 3/16-inch and 1/2-inch tubes, and for 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch threaded brake fittings are included and include custom carrying cases. Model P-37 is applicable for stainless steel lines, while Model P-45 is for steel, double-flared lines.

Raczuk announced his impending retirement at the 2015 SEMA Show. We wish much success to his son, as he takes over the family business.
