SEMA 2011: Ohio Technical College Teams Up With Edelbrock

The Edelbrock Academy is a specialized school training certificate program, under the Edelbrock Academy name.

An interesting and unique paring of talents have joined together for the future of automotive enthusiasts. Ohio Technical College, a performance and racing technical school, joined forces with one of the leaders in automotive technology, Edelbrock Performance. The result of this unique collaboration is the Edelbrock Academy.

According to Ohio Technical College’s Department Head Steve McBride, “the Edelbrock Academy is a specialized school training certificate program, under the Edelbrock Academy name. The program focuses on training students on aftermarket performance products.”

Classes covered under the training program include:

  • Camshafts/Lifters
  • Carburetors
  • Cylinder heads
  • Intake Manifolds
  • Exhaust systems
  • Electronic Fuel Injection Systems
  • Nitrous/superchargers
  • Data acquisition systems

As students complete modules within the above training programs that feature Edelbrock parts and training, they will receive an Edelbrock Academy Certificate of Completion on that part.

The car was a 'total mess' when purchased by the school but much of the groundwork restoration had taken place when Vic Edelbrock posed with the car at last year's SEMA trade show.

In response to Edelbrock’s support of the Ohio Technical College, Students, led by faculty members, built a performance 1957 Chevy for Vic Edelbrock to represent their gratitude and the Edelbrock Academy. The customized 1957 Chevy Bel Air was the centerpiece of Ohio Technical College’s display at SEMA 2010 tradeshow and represented the Edelbrock Academy at Ohio Technical College. The car toured the U.S. in 2010-11 as part of Ohio Technical College’s 80 high school and 20 car show “Fuel Your Future Tour” and other major events and shows.

The ’57 Chevy was presented to Vic Edelbrock as an Appreciation Award from Ohio Technical College for his leadership and innovation in the aftermarket performance industry at a special press conference on Wednesday, November 3rd ,2010.

McBride explained that “this particular 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was purchased in a complete state of disrepair. Missing all major detail from bumpers to interior to dash, it was the perfect project car. With support from major industry partners, OTC’s Classic Car Restoration and High Performance and Racing staff and students, as well as Christi Edelbrock, it came to life over a 3 month period.”

We’re looking forward to seeing this car on display at Vic’s garage in Torrance, California.
