This Plymouth GTX Saloon Racer Is A Mopar Fan’s Dream Ride

Robert Brown likes to color outside the lines on the builds he creates at Vin Racer. The 1967 Plymouth GTX 440 Trans Am build Brown built is a unique project that comes from his love of 1960s and 1970s vintage race cars. This Trans Am replica car looks like it jumped straight off the track in the 1960s, and landed on the streets in 2023.

Brown’s company, Vin Racer, builds one vehicle per year. The only work Brown doesn’t do himself is the paint, body, and engine machining. All of the custom fabrication, chassis work, plumbing, wiring, and assembly is performed by Brown at his home shop. You cannot deny Brown’s skills, because this Saloon-style race car is packed with awesome custom touches.

The body of the GTX has received numerous, yet subtle modifications to complete its transformation into a vintage race car. Under the body, you’ll find a completely updated chassis and suspension. The chassis has been strengthened thanks to a 12-point roll cage, and boxed frame. Brown converted the GTX to a 4-link rear suspension and added Viking coliover shocks to each corner. The GTX is brought to a stop thanks to a full set of Wilwood disc brakes.

If you’re going to build a vintage race car clone, it better have some serious horsepower and Brown didn’t skimp in that department. The GTX is powered by a 625 horsepower, 440 cubic-inch big block Mopar mill that’s topped off with a set of aluminum heads, and a Holley Sniper EFI system. A TREMEC five-speed transmission backs the beastly Mopar engine.

You’ll want to check out this video from AutotopiaLA where you can learn all the details about this build and see it in action.
