The Cadillac Challenge Series presented by Toyo Tires and the D3 Group continued last month with Round 3, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in the one and only Las Vegas, Nevada. On April 21st the Caddys crashed the euro-party at MFest, and gave the Beemers a taste of what modern Cadillac power is all about.

Tim Pak, one of the organizers of the Cadillac Challenge Series tells us, “The event organizers decided it would be a good idea to have Round 3 setup as a non-points exhibition round in the middle of MFest. The idea was to increase exposure to a different market segment and to help change the perspective of what some people think Cadillac V-Series cars really are…and it worked!” He added, “There was a mutual admiration and respect for what each brand of vehicle was able to show on the track. If anything this event was encouraging for all gear heads, as both brands are adequately represented by their respective super tuners.”

In the C1 Class Steve Collins in his matte-black 2012 CTS-V handily took the victory with a fastest lap of 2:09.642, Collin’s time was just over two-and-a-half seconds faster than the next closest competitor, David Little in his 1st Gen CTS-V. It should be noted that both of these cars, dispite running in the “stock” class, where mild modifications are allowed, were running some of the best times in Vegas.

Moving on to the C2 Modified Class, JR Renick piloted the D3/Renick “Battlewagon” CTS-V wagon against Team Special K and their D3 prepped 2010 CTS-V. Current C2 points leader Alan Cohen, was absent from Vegas and will also be missing the next few events, leaving the field wide open. The Renick CTS-V wagon edged out a narrow victory with a time of 2:15.721 over Team Special K thanks in part to heavy traffic from the BMWs circling the track at the same time.

The C3 Unlimited Class is always a favorite and they didn’t disappoint in Vegas. The D3 Legionnaire and Team HeaVyweight’s CTS-V both came to the track with a few new modifications and were playing to win. In early sessions both cars posted fastest laps of 2:08.5, and were separated by just 0.04 seconds. During the middle of the heated battle, D3 had to break away to participate in a “Tuner Showdown” against the BMWs. After placing a respectable 6th in the showdown, D3 came back to the Challenge Series and cracked off the fastest lap of the entire weekend – a blistering 2:07.704, which firmly put them in the winner’s circle yet again.

The Cadillac Challenge Series will continue with Round 4 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
