In this , we catch a glimpse of what was probably one of the most enjoyable places for hot rodders to be in America during a certain recent weekend.

Who says that your car show has to have glistening, scratch-free clearcoats, perfectly buffed and shined wheels, and immaculate interiors? No one, that’s who! And the folks who organized this year’s Rust Revival over in Wayland, MO, have made it that way for their seventh year now, and don’t intend on changing anytime soon.

A particularly noteworthy example of the ilk that populate this event was the rat rod with a variety of gadgets and gizmos attached to it. Between the headlamps was some sort of rubber tubing, a la moonshine distillery; for added laughs, the owner attached a sign reading “Redneck Dream Catcher” with a pair of panties below it. The headlamp covers were made from cut-out propane tanks.

The windshield spray jets were comprised of garden hose guns duct-taped to open the valve, and an extension cord dangled from the side to accommodate whatever electrical needs may arise, with a pair of jumper cables on the opposite side. To top it all off, some tasteful beer cans adorned the radiator.

The people who run Rust Revival take on all comers, provided their rig predates 1965. So that means that everything from flattops to Fairlanes are permitted. For the daring types, there was even a drag race to determine whose minibike was fastest.

Bring them your tired, your weary, your cracked-glass and faded-paint cars, your worn-tread and sputtering, smoky ride; where others would look askance and ridicule, Rust Revival embraces and invites one and all to its annual amalgam of abject, antique automobiles.
