New Tour Unlocks The Elite Cars Hidden In The Petersen Museum Vault

The Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, is home to some of the most iconic vehicles on the planet. The museum has everything from antique cars to some of the most famous cars ever to hit the big screen on display for enthusiasts to enjoy. It also plays host to world-premiere events each year, including Ford Performance driver Ken Block’s special early viewing of his latest Hoonigan video Climbkhana: Pikes PeakBut until now, one area that has remained under lock and key for the general public has been the Petersen Automotive Museum’s basement. Known as The Vault, this private viewing area has some of the rarest vehicles from around the world.

That all changes next month. On June 1, 2018, the Petersen Automotive Museum will unveil a new vault experience called “The World Tour,”  which unlocks the vault display. This program is part of a 10-year partnership with Hagerty and will deliver a deep, personal excursion through the museum’s underground treasury.

Enthusiasts will have the chance to choose the length of their experience, gives fans the opportunity to not only view the different vehicles on display but learn about the rich history of these rides as well.

“Car fans are going to be blown away by the vault tour,” McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty, enthused. “Most people haven’t had the opportunity to see a lot of these icons up close before, so we’re thrilled to give them that chance. Cars this special should be seen by everybody.

Through September 2018, the Peterson Automotive Museum also features an exhibit called An American Supercar. The exhibit takes visitors on a journey through the history of the renowned Ford GT supercar.

The exhibit exploits state-of-the-art Microsoft HoloLens technology, and enthusiasts get an up-close-and-personal look at the inner workings of the Ford GT and its historical predecessors. A genuine 1967 Ford GT40 Mark III and 2017 Ford GT are brought to life for participants as they learn the cars’ common history and what makes each one a race-winning machine.

When the new program begins in June, Guests who want first access will be able to pre-purchase tickets online and choose from two guided options — a 75-minute tour or a 120-minute extended tour.
