SCT Performance recently released its BDX unit to the market. This performance programmer does a lot more than just a simple handheld tuner that you might be familiar with. This unit is WiFi-enabled and can update itself, update its available tunes, and install custom tunes for your car, all over the internet. You’ve heard of cloud computing, so here is your introduction to the next phase in automotive tuning technology — cloud tuning.
While there isn’t a lot to the SCT Performance BDX kit, that’s part of what makes it so cool. You can do pretty much anything with tuning using just the contents of this small box.
The video above that shows the unboxing of SCTs newest programmer and introduces you to possibly the most versatile tuning device available the company has yet to deploy. It’s a tuning kit that comes with the just the essentials: the quick install guide, cables (USB and OBD-II to HDMI), an SCT logo, and a BDX device—and that’s it. It’s that simple. The device is compatible with more than 700 applications, including the 2018 Mustang, and it is not fuel specific so it works with both gas and diesel vehicles.
SCT Performance BDX Features
• Over 700 tunes
• Wi-Fi updates
• Stores 20 custom tunes
• Virtual gauages
• Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes
• New applications added all the time
Of the many cool features available with this device, Cloud Tuning is one that SCT has introduced with this unit. This allows you to get tunes from your dealer or custom tuner from anywhere with internet access. You don’t even have to go to the dealer office in person. All you have to do is give the dealer your device serial number and vehicle strategy and the new tune can be sent directly to your device.
Wireless tuning over the internet is a welcome change to the market.
To perform a cloud tune, just go into your BDX menu, open the first option to program your vehicle, confirm the vehicle, ensure that your device is up to date, and continue to cloud sync. At this point the device is going to request cloud files and once it finds the tune all you have to do is select the tune and viola! Your device will download your custom tune while you sit in your car.
Another new feature of the BDX is its ability to update tunes via Wi-Fi. All you have to do is connect your car to the BDX device, connect the device to Wi-Fi, and update. It really is that simple. You don’t even have to plug your tuner into the computer anymore to update your programmer itself or the tune on your car.
Connecting your BDX unit to your WiFi or mobile hotspot is as easy as connecting your tablet or phone to your home WiFi.
The new SCT BDX device really has the potential to change what it means to use a performance programmer on your car. The BDX will make it easier and more convenient to tune your car and it will let you change the tune more easily to fit what you are doing with your car at the time. New applications, software updates, and new tunes are available to you at the push of a button, so long as you have an internet connection available, when you are using one of SCT’s BDX devices.
