Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas hosted a Power Wheels race in 2016 that gave young racers a chance to live out their dreams. According to PBS, teens are less excited about getting behind the wheel than they were in previous generations. Thanks to events like Salina Speedway’s Power Wheels race future drivers may become excited by the prospect of driving as well as racing. With the decline in teen drivers, there is likely to be a decline in the future of motorsports, making youth oriented events even more important to the future of the hobby as well as the industries that support racing.

The Power Wheels division lined up and ready to roar. Body styles went from pure stock to a wedge late model and one mini-dwarf.
Aside from the cuteness overload, the Salina Speedway event provided the youngest racers with a chance to live out their dirt track dreams. In the first few seconds of racing, there were a few pileups and the young driver behind the wheel of a plastic Jeep took the lead. These youngsters were able to pas on the inside and perform many of the driving techniques used their more experienced counterparts. Providing future racers with the chance to compete builds their confidence and helps them dream about perhaps making it to The World of Outlaws one day.
Salina Speedway is not the only track to have offered Power Wheels racing, in Clark County Indiana, they are racing Power Wheels in the dirt as well. For those who are unaware, it is entirely possible to upgrade power of one of these machines, thanks to battery upgrades. Racers young and old have the desire to win, so it makes sense that there are performance upgrades for these little race cars.
