Sacramento, California-based Rubicon Express is showing off their new NFS (Neutral Force Steering) Steering Stabilizer this week at the SEMA Show among their many other new and existing Jeep enthusiast parts. Steering stabilizers, as you know, are there to dampen side-to-side movement in a vehicle and are a virtual must on solid axle vehicles.
The NFS is designed for the Jeep JK platform, the aluminum-bodied stabilizer features an internal spring that neutralizes the nitrogen force on the stabilizer itself, keeping it from expanding and causing the vehicle to push left or right. The stabilizer has 13 clicks of adjustability and sports a Nitro-Carb rod to alleviate any chipping that can lead to damaged seals. It also features a clockable reservoir design that, depending on the steering setup, allows it to be moved around into the desired position.
Most steering stabilizers, Rubicon’s Darryl Sanford shares, don’t feature an internal spring design, explaining that “on a nitrogen-charged stabilizer, the nitrogen charge will expand the actual shaft itself, so as you’re going straight down the road, as you let go of the steering wheel, the shock is going to expand on itself. With the internal spring, it neutralizes that force as you’re going straight and aids in returning to center. As the spring collapses on itself, it’s going to want to expand until it gets to its natural resting spot, and that spot is when it’s going straight down the road.”
A floating internal piston for the oil also helps neutralize thing and helps to keep the shock cool during operation.
The NFS Steering Stabilizer is on the shelf at Rubicon and available to order now.
