You’d think that GM was involved in a little sibling favoritism if you’ve been following Chevrolet’s escapades at the Nurburgring Nordschleife lately.

The Camaro has been hitting the iron pile and, blessed with it’s big brother Corvette’s genetics, good looks and killer LT4 650 horsepower motor, it might have seemed the eldest scion of GM had gotten a little soft around the middle.

One look at the Camaro’s numbers–7:29 lap with a 10 speed automatic-equipped ZL1 in 2016, then thrashing the track-focused ZL1 1LE around the ‘Ring in 7:16 earlier this year–support that notion.

Well the pupil may have swapped places with the master for a minute, but big bro Corvette, heat sink issues or not, has made it clear that the family hierarchy is still firmly in place.

Last time Chevy tried to test the Z06 at the ‘Ring, they crashed and it seems they aren’t really keen on making a second go of it…Enter a German car mag, Sport Auto who wasted no time laying down a blistering 7:13.9, laying waste to the 12.9 mile road course.

One last nugget, the Z06 that blew ’round the track was a manual transmission and that makes it the fastest row-your-own car that Sport Auto has ever tested around the ‘Ring.

At this point, it seems unlikely that we’ll see another official ‘Ring time from the Corvette team until the ZR1 finally breaks cover and has its way with the Green Hell, so this will have to do for now. But seeing as how Sport Auto only had a writer behind the wheel, and not a hot shoe like ride and handling engineer Bill Wise (who set the GM record in the ZL1 1LE), it’s likely that the car could have gone even faster.
