Rugged General: A Perfect Combination Of UTV And Jeep

Rugged General001

It today’s world of customization it seems like everything has been done before and being different becomes more difficult every day. The folks over at Rugged Radios decided to do something completely different and outside the box with their latest build – Rugged General.

The build was done by NV Fab Shop in Grover Beach, California where Nick Valentine and his team got to work making the vision come to life. “With our previous builds in mind, Greg Cottrell, owner of Rugged Radios, loves to take an old school approach to a vehicle build,” Mike Ruzicka of Rugged Radios explained. “He enjoys putting a modern spin on something that is iconic and unique.”

Is it a Jeep? Is it a UTV? The answer is yes to both!

From the front, the Rugged General has an old-school feel while the side profile reveals a bit of an updated look, with the color-matched rocker panels making for the perfect mashup. The vehicle did use a factory Willys grille and windshield.

“Some of his previous builds include Baja Bug and Polaris RZR, Manx Buggy and Polaris RZR, and now a Willys Jeep and Polaris General,” Ruzicka continued. “Playing off the model of the vehicle ‘General’ it was easy to make the Willys theme work perfectly. We used a Polaris General instead of a RZR because the General is setup for more low-speed, high torque rock trails, just likes Jeeps were designed for. These elements made this the perfect match for the Rugged General.”

The vehicle not only looks great, but it is capable as well.

The details in the build are something to notice. The tailgate was removed and swapped with a spare tire and ammo can carrier to complete the look. A custom flat-top cage was handmade by NV Fab, and fitted with a custom sewn canvas top.

The team paired with some of the biggest names in the industry for the build. Manufacturers like KC HilitesBubba RopeFactor55SuperATVWalker Evans RacingGMZPowertank, PRP, XTC Power Products, Linson Signs, and Assault Industries all got involved in one way or another on the build.

In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a powerful 50-Watt radio which is capable of transmitting up to 25-miles.

“The Rugged General has already tackled a few trails in Calico, California,” Ruzicka said. “It is currently at the Best in the Desert UTV World Championships on display and will be brought to Moab for the 2017 Rally on the Rocks. It will also be on display at off-road expos or other UTV events this year.”

There are small details hidden all over the build.

“Late June, this vehicle will also air in Destination Polaris TV show as part of ‘Project X Build.'” Ruzicka explained. “During that episode, you will see the Rugged General cruising the mountains near Navajo Flats, just east of San Luis Obispo, CA.”

If you are planning to attend any shows this year be sure to stop by and check out this one-of-a-kind vehicle build!
