Video: Odi Bakchis Talks Canton Racing Products

Oil control and maintaining positive oil pressure is important no mater what form of racing you call your field of expertise. If you’re drag racing, your engine is going to experience savage acceleration that pushes the oil to the back of the pan. If you are flying through the desert, an air-born engine can cause oil to float up and uncover the pickup. Road racing or drifting? Expect to battle massive lateral G forces that slosh oil up the sides of the pan.

No engine survives long in the no-mans land of zero oil pressure, and the aftermarket has developed unique solutions to the situations faced by different racecars. In this video, drifter Odi Bakchis takes us through some of Canton Racing Products features found in his oil pan.

Canton Bakchis’ oil pan is the Front Sump LS drift oil pan and is fabricated in such a way as to resist oil sloshing in multiple directions. Using four hinged trap doors, Canton is able to trap oil at the pickup. By orienting the trap doors in diagonal planes to the centerline of the engine, typical lateral and longitudinal forces are more easily resisted.

Canton also makes provisions for adaptability and customization with their oil pans. In the case of Bakchis, the oil pan offers dual dip-stick locations for packaging in cramped engine bays, and includes an adapter block for pluming AN oil lines.

Canton’s lineup of products includes clever oil-retention designs to make sure your engine maintains oil pressure in demanding driving situations. Check out their other offering to find an example for your application.
