SEMA 2016: Learning About Sprintex Supercharger Systems

Sprintex is somewhat of an emerging company in the world of forced induction, and rightfully so. We met up with Dar Holdsworth, Sprintex National Sales and Marketing Manager, to get the scoop on some of its products.

Each system is air-to-water cooled with a completely self-contained oiling system and self-contained intercooled cooling system, resulting in a cooler air charge – which is great for vehicles when off-roading, rock crawling, racing, etc. Unlike many other manufacturers, Sprintex prides themselves in delivering power directly off of idle and throughout the entire drivability range, claiming they can make 50 horsepower over stock at just 1,000 rpm.

Most twin-screw superchargers have a one-to-one ratio on their screws and house identical screws on the left and right sides, whereas Sprintex systems house a male and female screw that spin at a three-to-five ratio and mesh together much tighter, resulting in less overall parasitic air loss. So, they’re inherently much more efficient than the usual setup, because there is more air available, resulting in more power out of a smaller box.

They chose their two most popular application vehicles to display at their exhibit at this years’ show – the FRS and Jeep. Jeeps take up the majority of their customer base, as there really isn’t a high-power Jeep available from the factory. They have applications covering most of the market from 2008 and up, including products for the 3.6-liter Pentastar motor, 3.8-liter motor, and the 4.0-liter.

“The FT86 and GT86 platforms make for a great emerging market for us,” said Dar. “These cars are sexy, fun, and lightweight– but they’re just missing that power. Expect to see a lot more from us in the 86 arena.”
