Video: Best In Show With Charles Warland’s ’75 Datsun Z

No it isn’t all-original, but it has so much class and prestige for its vision. Posted on ” target=”_blank”>Youtube, we came across Charles Warland and his 1975 Datsun 260Z that has a little something hiding under the hood, which is set to enter the Turbosmart Flying 500.

To our surprise, Warland’s Datsun boasts a RB26DETT swap that cranks out 671 horsepower, mated to a RB25 five-speed manual transmission. With insane amounts of power in a 41-year-old specimen, we’re sure the Datsun is wide awake and not feeling old whatsoever.

Flawless from front to back, heck even the chrome accessories glisten in the Australian sun like it just rolled off of the assembly line. Choosing to paint the car Pearl White helps to preserve the classic look of the car, even with its aggressive wheel fitment and drivetrain setup.

No matter where you see it from, Charles Warland's Datsun 260Z is an absolute beauty.

Listening to Warland tell his story, he instantly fell in love with the Datsun 260Z when he heard about it from his uncle, who had bought a 260Z himself. “When I started the project, I thought I’d just have nice street car with a RB in it,” Warland said. “I got it as a rolling shell, which was all rusty from a guy in Melbourne. Two to three years later, we got the RB in there.”

The RB26DETT is found in the Japanese legend that is the Godzilla, or the Nissan Skyline GT-R. This engine represents engineering perfection from Nissan as it competed against its counterpart, Toyota’s 2JZ-GTE.

The attention to detail is prevalent on every spot of this 260Z. This is truly a beauty in the eye of the beholder.

The car boasts a Datsun Z suspension kit and Wilwood six-piston brakes that bring the speedy sport coupe to a halt without fault. With everything being simply immaculate inside and out, Warland’s Datsun is a dream come true. What he calls a future classic may sound like an oxymoron, but it is definitely ahead of its time.

Even underneath, Warland's Datsun is immaculate and boasts show car qualities.

Even E85 tuned, there isn’t any more you can ask for with Warland’s Datsun. It is a build only some could even hope to fathom. “You look at the outside and it looks phenomenal,” Warland said. “You put it up on a hoist and it’s just as nice under there.”

He is right indeed, and we praise Warland for his wonderful build. “It’s light, it’s noisy, and it’s not comfortable,” he said. “It’s a street-registered racecar.” Mistaken for a 240Z upon first sight, Warland talked about the rarity of the 260Z. His is rare not just for its model, but for what he has done to it.

Tastefully modded with every tuner’s dream churning in the engine bay, Warland has pulled off a cool build that is timeless and can only appreciate with time. Sure everyone may not be a fan of the fender flares, but we feel everything fits just right with this Datsun.

If you owned a Datsun 260Z, what would have been your first order of business? Would you have done it any different than Warland’s build map? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
