The Hoonigan crew is a wild bunch. The look of their cars match their personalities for sure and capturing such intensity is not easy. So when it came time to dial in the look of Ken Block’s 2016 Ford Focus RS RX rallycross beast something next level was in store.
For the livery of Block’s, and his teammate, Andreas Bakkerud, Fords, the Hoonigan Racing Division collaborated with popular street artist Felipe Pantone for something eclectic and cool. The video footage provides some insight into the effort.
The artist worked his trigger finger firing spray paint and creating a number of highly stylized panels. In fact, Pantone produced eight individual works during an eight-day stint at the famed Hoonigan Donut Garage. The creations were converted to vinyl wrap and applied to the racy FIA World Rallycross Championship Blue Ovals.
Quoting from his Facebook page Pantone relayed, “I’ve been looking forward to sharing this since I worked on it a few months back. The livery for Hoonigan and Ken Block, I was amazed when I met Ken Block in London and now he’s taking this car designed by me to the World Rally Circuit. This project seemed like a great fit for me, working with a team as obsessed with speed and technology as myself.”
The scheme looks fast but its true speed will be determined April 15th as the FIA World Rallycross Championship season kicks off at the Bompiso World RX Of Portugal at Montalegre. The Montalegre circuit is a 1.52 kilometer setup, featuring 60% tarmac, 40% dirt, and a healthy Joker Lap that should keep the action hot and heavy.
