Let us turn back the hands of time and set our clocks for 1995 where the Nissan R33 Skyline is just seeing the light of day. To see how its cars measure up on the performance yardstick automakers take them to the Nurburgring to turn a hot lap for the history books. Nissan was no different with the R33. Nissan had set the bar at 8:22.38 in 1989 with the R32/ The Honda NSX and Porsche 911 eclipsed this time and the NSX-R had the bragging rights at 8:03.86 as the R33 V-Spec weaved onto the track in 1995.
Best Motoring was chronicling the events of the day and its hot shoe, Motoharu Kurosawa, a precursor to Top Gear’s Stig worked the wheel. The video features a driver point of view on the main screen with insets of a pedal cam and a tach cam so the viewer has a full understanding of what is going on and how the car is reacting to the various driver inputs.
The RB26 makes 8,000 rpm seem like its comfort zone as the car darts through the twisty course, its tires scrubbing and squealing in proper proportion. The R32 V-Spec breaks the record and the action portion of the video is followed up with an interview in Japanese but it’s accompanied by footage of the car in action which gives you a sense of how hard Motoharu-san pushed things. Bets Motoring is awesome and this video serves as a great way to start the week off.
