From straight-up drifting to his time at Top Gear USA to rallycross, hot shoe Tanner Foust has showed a unique knack to drive anything on four wheels fast. Well he’s lost a wheel in this video … it didn’t fall off, Foust co-stars in the video with a three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot. Polaris and Mad Media produced SlingshotX, a film that features the fearless three-time U.S. rallycross champion and four-time X-Games gold medalist, as the duo runs rampant in downtown San Diego, California at night.
The video has the feel of a Gymkhana-esque shoot as the Polaris Slingshot’s driving capability is taken to the ragged edge on the city streets. You start to feel sorry for the Slingshot’s single rear tire that has the tough task of providing motivation for the three-wheeled wonder. This particular Slingshot has been tuned to the 9s with 400 horsepower on tap from a turbocharged and intercooled Eco-Tec four cylinder that displaces 2.4 liters. The motor features an upgraded fuel system with spark being provided by AEM. The suspension has been enhanced to Gymkhana levels of grip and control with Q1 coilovers while stopping power has been addressed with custom 14-inch Wilwood rotors and six-piston calipers. The vehicle’s contact patch is provided by sticky Continental tires wrapped around HRE wheels.
Gymkhana EIGHT was a little flat and we think more of a concept would do this video some good. We hope Mad Media makes another as these efforts do wonders in introducing the performance prowess of the Slingshot to an entirely new legion of customers.
