When an EG Civic sports a set of massive front tires, it’s probably quick. When it features a hood-exit exhaust, you know it’s the real deal. This teal hatch is powered by a built, sleeved GSR motor and force-fed through a 67/72 turbocharger. If its lumpy idle was suggestive, its penchant for wheelspin at 90 mph is convincing.
As the diminutive Honda squares up against a 700-horsepower GT-R on the freeway, most would assume the Nissan’s traction would give it the edge at a relatively low speeds. At seventy miles an hour, the story is slightly different: the Civic spins its tires through third gear and and convincingly walks the GT-R while laying long, black lines on the interstate. Not a subtle, understated victory in the slightest.
The onslaught of impressive machinery doesn’t end there. Camaros, Corvettes, and turbocharged S2000s simply can’t compete. Interestingly, the Civic even manages to squash a GT-R from a dig, despite violently roasting the tires through the first three gears. It seems that even four wheel-drive can be overcome with a light and powerful car.
The real test of a freeway king is its ability to match quick bikes, and this Honda does so very well. Only the Kawasaki 1000 and a modified Hayabusa are the machines which can show the Civic their taillights. Even as these road-going rockets accelerate with the urgency of an F1 car, the Honda manages to keep them within eyesight, only losing by a slight margin. For those who doubt the potential of a fully-tuned Civic, take one peek at this incredible EG.
