Video: Max Verstappen F1 Snow Demo

If there is one thing Formula 1 cars are not suited to it’s off-road excursions. Add a set of snow chains, a closed ski slope, one swollen-egoed 18 year old driver and this is what you get! Post the Infiniti and Red Bull partner dissolution the famed Formula 1 race team looks to be taking a day off from their senses and cares by demonstrating a wonderfully entertaining way to use your old liveried open-wheel racer.

We struggle to find any constructive criticism to offer this blatant albeit tasty dose of exhibitionism other than an alliterative string of expletives — however we couldn’t help ourselves. As team Infiniti busted out their scrapers, fired up the helicopters and rolled up in the semi we were sitting behind our monitors frothing in anticipation.Screen Shot 2016-01-14 at 2.39.23 PM copy

After a quick change of shoes from the expected Pirellis to some studded snow boot, the screaming race car exited the garage and drove in to the great white unknown. Navigating the initial gentle right hand bend to the slope we were clenching a little in fear of some icy understeer toward the edge of the sheer edge. Carefully navigating the corner and fighting for traction, driver Max Verstappen feathers the throttle before planting it for a hill climb unlike the engineers ever foresaw.

Fearing for the shock inducing bumps ahead of the car in the snow — we watched on to see the car execute an appropriately untidy turn around — to no fault of the car or driver. Done with the silliness we are reminded that while an Formula 1 car is a masterpiece in design and construction it’s still just another car — the out of context encounter with snow is the true shocker.Screen Shot 2016-01-14 at 2.39.53 PM copy
