Back in July of this year, we had the chance to get up-close and personal with Brad Gusler’s ’15 EcoBoost Mustang. At the time, Gusler’s EcoBoost was able to accomplish low 11-second passes with ease.

Since then, Gusler has made a few changes to his EcoBoost, allowing the turbocharged beast to throw down an impressive 10.58-second pass at 128.32 mph. We can’t help but wonder to ourselves if Gusler’s EcoBoost could be the first in the world to make a 9-second pass?

12115482_402879306587765_311693859072888240_nGRGusler says that it’s very possible it could happen in the future. He, along with Watson Racing and Revolution Automotive, have strived to make their collaborative efforts on the EcoBoost to be as fast and reliable as possible. A new Precision 62mm turbocharger and a set of DeatschWerks HDVE 1700cc fuel injectors, along with a tuning calibration from Revolution, allow this EcoBoost’s 2.3 liter inline-four powerhouse to lay down an impressive 500-plus rear-wheel horsepower at 33 pounds of boost. Gusler says, “The car can easily run a 10.30 as it sits. We plan on working closely with Adam at Revolution Automotive to up the boost reliably. The Precision turbocharger we’re using isn’t even at it’s full boost-level potential. The max is around 45 pounds, so there’s plenty of power left on the table to be made.

We’ve also upgraded the rotating assembly with a new set of rods and pistons for when we want to turn up the boost on the turbocharger. We haven’t bored the block, and we’re still on the factory cylinder heads and camshafts. We pushed the stock rotating assembly with over 300-plus passes, and we haven’t been easy on the car.”

Gusler has big plans for the EcoBoost including taking part in next season’s NMRA EcoBoost Shootout in the spring. However, if the weather permits as we close-in on the end of this year, Gusler says, “we might just see an even lower pass this time around.”
