SEMA 2015: aFe Power Builds One Trick Diesel Pump

Diesel truck enthusiasts may not get a lot of love from Prius owners, but the same cannot be said about the aftermarket. The industry’s annual extravaganza, the SEMA Show, hits Las Vegas like a lightning bolt and attracts thousands to the downtown convention center. Attending the show as an exhibitor, aFe Power, displayed its new DFS 780 fueling system made specifically for the diesel market.

IMG_9823Intended as a replacement lift pump, the DFS 780 can be activated in one of two ways. The first way is boost activation, which puts the pump under extra demand when it needs extra fuel under load. With the boost activation setup, fuel flows through the existing lift pump and the DFS 780 only delivers more fuel when it’s needed.

The second way is pure replacement, where the pump is operating at full capacity at all times. As the aFe Power representative described to us as the booth, “We see a lot of the Dodge Cummins’ pumps fail. They stop working, and they’re very expensive to replace, so aftermarket pumps like ours are a good alternative.”

Some of the defining features of the DFS 780 include a high-quality, Italian-made motor mounted vertically to prevent fuel from flowing back into it. It also has built-in air/water separation technology, preventing water from reaching the truck engine and only letting fuel through with fuel filters made either by aFe or by outside competitors.

Another cool feature of the DFS 780 is its vehicle-specific platform. Instead of making something with a one-size-fits-all approach, aFe Power went the extra mile to ensure that the pump that goes in one truck is meant specifically for that make and model.
