Ken Block never ceases to amaze us, taking ordinary cars and transforming them into absolute monsters. Posted on ” target=”_blank”>YouTube, check out his latest teaser behind the wheel of a 1978 Ford Escord Mk2 RS, which is set to be the first rear-wheel drive Gymkhana vehicle for Block.
The viral Gymkhana series Block started became an instant internet sensation, praising Block for his technical and precise driving, all the while having fun with all of it. Block purchased this Ford Escort back in 2008, specifically for competing in tarmac events. With the scarcity of tarmac events in the United States, Block decided to convert it into his next Gymkhana car.

“This Escort Mk2 is special to me, it’s actually my first Ford rally car,” says Block. “I purchased it in 2008. It was designed to compete in tarmac events, but unfortunately those are quite lacking now stateside, so instead of converting it into a gravel machine, I had my team at Hoonigan Racing Division extend on its tarmac capabilities and develop it into the ultimate rear wheel-drive Gymkhana car.”
Looking for a place to get the project going, Block sought out help from Graham Quick Motorsport in the United Kingdom. The team at Graham’s upgraded everything under the aging body to World Rally Championship spec. Tucked underneath the hood is a 2.5-liter Millington Diamond Series II inline-four cylinder engine, which produces 333 horsepower to the rear wheels and features a ridiculous 9,000-rpm redline.

A six-speed sequential gearbox helps put power to the pavement and a Rocket Bunny widebody aero kit is the icing on the cake for this speedy Escort. Rocket Bunny’s founder Kei Miura worked with Block and his team, producing the world’s first Rocket Bunny Escort, which was inspired by Hoonigan Racing’s current RX43 and HFHV Fiestas, and the Hoonicorn RTR.
Block’s Escort sits nicely on custom two-piece fifteen52 wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires. “This car has been something I’ve been working on slowly for a long time now,” said Block. “I’m stoked with how the whole thing turned out. My team and Graham Quick at Quick Motorsport in the U.K. did a great job on the build of the car, Rocket Bunny did an awesome job with the exterior styling and I absolutely love how The Hoonigans took something I really love—the American flag—and remixed it into a badass graphic for the livery of this car. I’ve only been able to test this car for two days, but I’m looking forward to slaying some more tires in this thing really soon. The car absolutely rips, especially at 9,000 rpm.”
With a video project in the works and set for a 2016 release date, are you excited to see Block’s latest build in action? He hasn’t failed to keep us entertained since his first Gymkhana release and we don’t see why this next one will be underwhelming. According to Hoonigan Industries, the first public appearance of the car will occur this weekend at Monster Energy’s Gymkhana GRID Finale in the United Kingdom.
