DiabloSport Tunes Charger Hellcat To 700 Wheel Horsepower

The Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat burst onto the scene in the past year packing more horsepower than any other American production car thanks to a supercharged 6.2 liter Hemi V8. This monster motor makes 707 horsepower at the crankshaft, which translates to approximately 660 horsepower at the rear wheels. That’s amazing, don’t get us wrong…but wouldn’t it be even better if the Hellcat’s wheel horsepower matched its listed rating?

Thanks to DiabloSport, that’s almost the case, as they claim their new tuning kits for the Hellcat motors just barely passed the 700 rear-wheel horsepower mark on 93 octane (sorry California).

The tuning company has taken its time getting its packages for the Hellcat just right, with three different offerings depending on just how aggressive you want to get. The standard tune leaves the stock software in place, instead freeing up performance elsewhere in the powertrain. DiabloSport claims that its “stock” tune can make for crisper shifting and better throttle response while letting owners tweak for things like tire size and even turn off the electronic stability control. Do this at your own risk, of course.

Then there’s the 91 octane tune for the engine management software, which in addition to making and allowing the above changes, adjusts spark and fuel delivery to increase raw power output. Where the stock Hellcat Charger test car puts 660 horsepower to the rear wheels, DiabloSport claims its 91 octane tune added 28 horsepower and 20 lb-ft of torque, bringing total output to just under 690.

However, there’s still the 93 octane tune, and that incremental increase in potential energy is all DiabloSport needed to make the Hellcat a true 700 horsepower car. With this tune, their Challenger Hellcat test car made 697.7 rear-wheel horsepower and 652 lb-ft of torque, an improvement of about 40 horsepower over stock without turning a single bolt. DiabloSport was reportedly able to achieve 700.2 horsepower not longer after this video was filmed.

What a time to be alive.
