Set on a road fitting for some sort of martial arts film, this scenic drift video typifies the sense of freedom one feels when mountain driving. Two Red Bull-sponsored drifters, James Tang and Frederico Sceriffo, take turns smoking the rear tires off their drift cars while missing the edges of the road by increasingly smaller margins. With an epic soundtrack, glorious engine notes and gorgeous natural scenery, this video has it all and then some.
As the drifters’ Supra and Soarer navigate the narrow pass through Tianmenshan Mountain, it’s tough to decide whether the scenery or the sublime driving skills are more impressive. Tianmenshan pass features over one hundred corners with tall stone barriers lining the skinny road, making drifting in a long Toyota a real challenge. The Supra and Soarer – the latter known more commonly in the states as a SC300 – are known for their generous proportions, making the triple-digit speeds reached even more impressive.
Not lacking the the wow-factor department, this video is complete with slow motion shots, helicopter angles and comprehensive viewpoints which really illustrate the enormity of the Tianmenshan labyrinth. It’s a wonder that these two would dare drive on such a bumpy, unfriendly road in their expensive drift machines. In the end, the victor is the Italian who just edges James Tang’s performance. Whether you prefer the mellifluous sounds of the Toyota inline-six, the scenery straight out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or the sheer cinematic skill at hand, this video has something for everyone.
