The Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring, or VLN for short, is an organisation of motorsport clubs in which each hosts one event of a ten-race series held on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It seems like every time there is a VLN race nowadays, there is always an epic save or nasty crash involving a number of high-dollar racecars.

The driver of this GT4-prepped Porsche Cayman was extremely lucky that he was able to save his car from a nasty collision with the metal barrier. Coming into the turn, it looked like the driver hit a damp, slick spot which caused the car to understeer onto the grass, and ultimately into the gravel section. The driver most likely knew he was going to hit the wall, so he floored it once his car hit the gravel section, propelling his car away from the barrier.

After spitting loads of gravel at the photographers behind the barrier, the driver got his Cayman back on track, but also dragged a lot of gravel onto the track with him. This Porsche Cayman would’ve been lightly crunched in the rear if the driver didn’t react as quickly as he did, or know his proximities and show great car control. It’s one thing to perform an epic save in a video game, but during a real race it has to be a nail-biter. The photographer shooting from behind the barrier (who wasn’t running up the hill) better have had some great lens protection, though!

This was, in fact, an awesome save on the driver’s part. He didn’t hurt the car, himself, or any other racers. Crisis: averted.
