How many mid-engined vehicles on sale in 2015 can you name that are offered with a manual gearbox? If you’re struggling to come up with any (Porsche Cayman is all we’ve got) and that thought depresses you, we’ve got a little bit of good news by way of the Ultima Evolution.
Powered by a GM-sourced LS motor, the Evolution is available in no less than 15 different levels of tune, starting at 350 horsepower and climbing all the way to a fairly bonkers 1020 hp in top-spec form. And all of that grunt is channel through a six-speed manual gearbox that is (perhaps unsurprisingly) sourced from Porsche.
Getting that power to the ground is accomplished by a serious set of meats, with the Evolution’s 18-inch forged wheels wearing 245/35 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires at the front and 335/30 R18 at the rear. Apparently it’s enough to help this 2100 pound monster get the power to the ground, as 0-60 mph is reportedly dispatched in a mere 2.3 seconds on its way to a 240 mph top speed.
For cornering duties the Ultima uses TIG welded double unequal length wishbones and fully adjustable custom made coil spring dampers for bump, rebound and ride height, and a double element carbon fiber wing helps keep the car pressed to the ground at high speeds.
Sound good? $150,000 will get you the high output model fully assembled (they sell them as kits, too) and shipped from Ultima’s Leicestershire, England factory. In the meantime, dig this video of the Evolution in motion.
