The Mazda MX-5 Miata has shown us over the years that a small roadster with minimal means of power is, in fact, one of the greatest driver’s cars of all time. The MX-5 Miata was the only car in its segment for a while, unless you count the Toyota MR-2. In 2012, Toyota introduced their new light, small sports car to the automotive world, and everybody seemed to have forgotten about the Miata.
That’s not the case anymore, as Mazda has completely redesigned the MX-5 Miata for the 2016 model year, and we like what we see. The new MX-5 Miata features a 2.0-liter SkyActiv engine that produces 158 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Although the MX-5 Miata produces about 40 hp less than the flat-four in the GT86, it weighs 440 pounds less than which gives quite the advantage while cornering. Maybe if the GT86 only had two seats it would weigh the same. The GT86 is a very fun little car. Of course enthusiasts complain about its lack of power, but that’s what gives it the character it has – low power and lightweightness.
