Positioned in the hills of the Gunma Prefecture in Japan rests a unique museum that catalogs much automotive history. Posted on Jalopnik, the Ikaho Toy, Doll, and Car Museum traces Japanese cars back to their roots.

Turning back the hands of time, this museum is a labyrinth of old school Japanese automobiles, model cars, and various toys. To put it into some perspective, they have an entire exhibit of the museum dedicated to Initial D, complete with Takumi’s famous Toyota AE86, the Tofu shop, and other trinkets to tickle the Initial D nerd inside you.

It really doesn’t matter how old you are as there is something for every tuner enthusiast inside this reputable museum. There is even the Toyota 2000GT, which only 351 of them were produced. Compared to the Porsche 911 during its time, the 2000GT’s short production span made it one of the first sought after Japanese cars and the first true supercar to spawn from Japan.

There are other classic Japanese cars that vie for attention, including bite size Honda Coupes, Toyotas, Nissan Bluebirds, first-generation GT-R’s, Datsun Fairlady Z’s, and Daihatsus. My how the times have changed, but to see where it all came from is a joy for those who respect automobiles and their journey through rapid technological advancement over the past 60 years.

The M. Yokota car collection that resonates in Japan’s Ikaho Car Museum is a historic marvel that has people from all over flocking to the museum to catch a glimpse of Japanese popular culture, toys, and of course the wondrous automobiles that were manufactured during the 20th and 20th century.

What do you think of this museum? Does it deserve more of a spotlight? Be sure to share your thoughts below.
